I.O.U. Eye Candy

Before credit cards, merchants would obtain “assurance” slips noting the client agreed to pay in 30 or 60 days, or some other agreed-upon schedule.

While I don’t know the details of early 20th century banking, I know this: these slips are eye candy for a type lover like me. If IOUs were this beautiful today, I would buy things on credit all the time just for the receipts!
